What is a butterfly child and peter pan syndrome?

” A Butterfly child, so free and so wild and so full of living…”

(Jesamine, Casuals. 1968)

My dad and brother always reminded me a little of Peter Pan, in fact, my mum always said they had Peter Pan Syndrome. My dad was a respectable, mature and responsible adult who helped raise 5 children, but my goodness did he know how to live life and have fun. My brother, obviously, falls from the same tree , as they are so similar it is crazy. He also knows how to live life to the fullest.

As for how far did I fall from that tree, lets just say I am possibly the apple that is still clinging on for dear life. I am the biggest child I know, and I have two of my own, so thats saying something.

I always believed as I grew up, I would figure out this growing up and maturing ‘thing’, that I would have an amazing, exciting but grown up career, eventually have respectable children and would be a “grown up”. I think everyone has a little Peter Pan in them, and as it turns out, I don’t think I was built for the “grown up” track. My mum calls me a butterfly child, from one of our favourite songs from the sixties, because I’ve always been a little free and a little wild, and I dance in the rain, and laugh at myself and I hope, I really hope I do have Peter Pan syndrome if there is such a thing. I have almost cracked this ‘adulting’ business. I have two children, a happy marriage and a wonderful home. But I love nothing more than singing nonsense songs, running barefoot in grass, rolling down hills, having fun and making new friends.

My name is Tina, and I like to live the way my dad taught me, and I think it would be nice to share this with people. There is so much sadness and heartbreak in the world, so if I can be a light in the darkness or a giggle on the breeze, I think my dad would have liked that. I have two children both now in school, my little monkey (8 yr old boy) and my poppet (6 going on 16 yr old girl), and an overgrown child, lovingly called my husband Mr Butterfly Child! (34 turning 7!) We all live happily in Somerset, and along for the ride is my mum (mamma to most). We have our ups and downs, quite a lot of downs, we seem to have a case of bad luck -itis,  but we are never given anything we cannot handle and have always survived bad days, so they can’t be that bad.

We sadly lost my dad a few years ago now, so I happily offered my mum a room with us. My husband is in the Forces so is away a fair bit, so company for me and my mum. I am slowly trying to move all my loved ones, family and friends to Somerset. I have ‘collected’ a mum, a sister and a best friend, I am having trouble with the rest but I’ll keep you updated. ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t have a genius idea for a blog, and in truth I am a bit … well lets say relaxed in my view on life, I have had many jobs and loved them all, but haven’t quite found my calling just yet, fingers crossed for my new job. (*** I love my new job, obviously I am having health issues, but my boss is really good and understanding, but mostly I feel at home there and accepted.****) I have lots of hobbies I start, and try but I am definitely a ‘jack of all trades…’ sort. My life consists of my children, work, crafting, organising children parties, going to childrens parties, a hundred and one after school clubs and trying to keep myself sane by making lots of friends and hoping one day I will fit in somewhere, and people will want to keep this slightly crazy, talkative (oh I do like the sound of my own voice) but friendly mummy around and enjoy what I have to say.

When I have time, my most favourite pastime is reading, and there isn’t anything quite like snuggling down under a blanket, with a really hot, nice cup of tea with a good book!

“You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me”

(Lewis Carrol)

So if you like a blog with random ramblings, pinterest fails/successes, ideas and inspiration or you think you might have a touch Peter Pan syndrome or if you want to make friends with a butterfly child, maybe this is the blog for you.
